SigTEL EMERGENCY VOICE SYSTEMS
Disabled Refuge Alarm System .png)
For most people, a simple instruction like “Please leave the building by the nearest available exit” can be
acted upon quickly and easily. However for wheelchair users, disabled and infirm, this isn’t always the case.
Current ‘Building Regulations’ recognise this difficulty and now insist that all non-domestic buildings with more than 1 storey provide ‘Refuge’ areas, which are safe areas where people who cannot easily escape a building can call for assistance and wait until help arrives.
Simple and effective two-way communication with these areas is essential in assisting rescue teams to
determine where the assistance is required whilst giving reassurance that people are on the way.
Communication systems designed for these refuge areas are known as Emergency Voice Communication (EVC) Systems.
