Products utilising Light-emitting diode (LED) technology consume a lot less power over an equivalent rated fluorescent tubed luminaire. This energy saving can be considerable if taken over the life span of the luminaire especially in applications such as Universities, Hospitals and Hotels etc that tend to use maintained fittings that are permanently on.
LED products also have the advantage of having a longer operational life of approx 5 years as compared to a much shorter life of 6-8 months for an equivalent fluorescent tubed luminaire. The LED light unit provides a relatively consistent light output throughout it's entire life with little denigration unlike the gradual light fall off associated with an aging fluorescent tube.
